Bisibelebath

Serves: 4

Ingredients:

1 cup toor dal
1 cup rice
1 Onion chopped
2 Tbsp tamarind juice (from a small Tamarind piece soaked in water)
5 tsp bisibelebath powder
2 tsp sambar powder
Beans diced into 1.5 inch pieces
Carrot diced
Drumstick
Peanuts
2 Tbsp Oil
Salt

For Tempering:
1 tsp mustard seeds
Curry leaves
2 Dry Red chillies
Cashewnuts
Ghee

Method:

1) Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add onions and saute till it turns transparent.

2) Add the tamarind juice and stir under low heat for 2 mins. Add the peanuts, beans, carrot and drumsticks. Stir for 2 mins. Add the bisibelebath and sambar powder. Cook under low heat for 5 mins.

3) Add rice and toor dal and cook for 2 mins. Add 6 cups of water ( Water = 2 x [Toor Dal + Rice] )

4) Add salt. Bring the water to boil. Add 1 tsp of ghee and close the cooker. Cook till 2 or 3 whistles.

5) Just before opening the cooker, heat 1/2 tsp ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds and once it starts spluttering, add cashew nuts, curry leaves and red chillies. Open the cooker and add the pan mixture.

6) Serve hot with chips or boondi.
